WHY A VINYL POOL COVER?

To a swimming pool owner the reasons for keeping a pool covered are varied and of paramount importance. The NewTech-NZ “Roll-a-Guard” system is specifically designed to very precisely deal with reasons relating to covering a pool, by: i) Maintaining heat retention ii) Minimising water evaporation iii) Keeping the pool clean of debris iv) Cost savings from reduced heating bills, reduced chemical usage, minimal cleaning and valet servicing, and often v) Providing the safest possible environment for your family and friends.

The “Roll-a-Guard” fully automated vinyl cover is considered to be a much superior option over the normal bubble and thermal types of covers available, and is generally considered to be a permanent solution in the covering of a swimming pool. It is a more cost-effective option than the slatted cover system.

In operation, (either by push-button or remote) its ease of use is equally as favourable to its slatted counterpart. Its lifespan of 7 Years (minimum for the vinyl – dependant on usage) easily offsets the initial capital costs incurred, making it a cost-effective and practical permanent solution.

The vinyl type cover, being purpose-made to suit every individual swimming pool, ensures precise and personal customer satisfaction at the outset.

The availability of various vinyl colour options/above ground (retrofit) or in-pool variants / manual or automatic operation, allows for the perfect choice of the most suitable pool cover for your particular needs and environment.

INTRODUCTION

The concept of the NewTech-NZ "Roll-a-Guard” automated pool cover system is not in any way new to the swimming pool industry as a whole, but extensive research and development has been undertaken to be the first in New Zealand to adapt imported automated systems to incorporate as much New Zealand componentry as possible. The NewTech-NZ “Roll-a-Guard” system is fully designed and manufactured to suit local conditions, and  meet local and international standards of quality, reliability and durability. About the only component imported is the drive motor – everything else is made in New Zealand. Most replacement spares are off-the-shelf  – no delays – no international freight costs – New Zealand service as it should be – Supporting each other.

Every cover is custom-made to suit each particular pool design; ensuring maximum surface coverage is achieved.

The two basic systems available from NewTech-NZ in the “Roll-a-Guard” range are the above-pool (retrofit) system ideally suited to existing pools without automated covers, as well as to newly constructed swimming pools, and the in-pit system for newly constructed pools, where the cover pit can be built in at the construction stage. Some existing pools can be modified to accept the in-pit system, as the cover pit is a dry pit. Breaking these options down even further, to suit any and every pool situation, the “Roll-a-Guard” cover system is also available with the tracks mounted under the coping tiles or in-laid into the side pool walls. They are also able to be mounted above the pool on the paving surrounding the pool, to allow complete cover to any odd-shaped pool.

Whichever type of system is used the NewTech-NZ “Roll-a-Guard” cover system is designed to be efficient, cost-effective and an exclusive choice for the discerning pool owner.

Designed primarily for heat retention and pool cleanliness this system also drastically reduces chemical usage and provides a high level of safety to every pool.

THE PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION

The operation of the vinyl cover is such that it is suspended between two tracks, much like a trampoline, and to a small degree floats on the surface of the water.

Very simply, the vinyl uncoils off the roller when the cover is going out onto the pool, and floats on the water’s surface until it reaches the far end of the pool, and the entire surface of the pool is covered. To retract the cover, the vinyl cover is coiled back onto the roller until the entire surface of the pool is exposed for swimming.

Built-in limit settings automatically prevent the cover from going out too far onto the pool or retracting too far back onto the roller.

The activation of the motor is by push-button or by using a hand-held remote (similar to the operation of a garage door or electric gate).

DESIGN - MATERIALS

Vinyl

All NewTech-NZ “Roll-a-Guard” vinyl covers are manufactured from the highest grade 670g commercial PVC, and are fully UV stabilised, suitable for outdoor use in the harsh New Zealand weather conditions. Every vinyl cover has a technologically advanced welded seam system, in which the seams connecting the vinyl to the side webbing & rope are welded, not stitched with cotton - One type of material vs the normal 4 (vinyl/canvass webbing/cotton stitching). No shrinkage of cotton/webbing/rope, just a smooth welded seam. Most vinyl covers have built-in zips and mesh pockets to release excessive rainwater on the cover, and to catch leaves and debris before it goes into the water.

The “Roll-a-Guard” vinyl cover provides maximum insulation against heat loss, and also provides some additional heating into the pool water from sun.

Automated rainwater removal pumps are available on request to pump off excessive water if the owner is away or wished their cover to be completely self-operated.

All NewTech-NZ covers are custom-made to fit any specific size pool, ensuring that the entire width and length of the pool is precisely covered.

Vinyl covers are available in 10 standard colour choices with 20 other choices available on request.

ROLLERS – COMPONENTS – DRIVE SYSTEM

All NewTech-NZ “Roll-a-Guard” components are manufactured from the highest grade materials with the close proximity to water, chemicals and our harsh outdoor weather conditions being the foremost consideration in the design criteria.

Rollers are manufactured from high grade stainless steel, with all connecting bushes being of polyethylene to eliminate corrosion.

All shafts/bolts/fixings are manufactured from high grade stainless steel.

All units incorporate as-standard, limit setting features, pre-set to stop the cover automatically at its extremities.

Operation of the system is by manual open/close buttons or by hand-held remote.

DC DRIVE MOTORS ARE “LOW VOLTAGE” AND 100% SAFE FROM ELECTRICAL SHOCK

SAFETY

Automated vinyl pool cover systems are not considered by New Zealand law to be safety covers. Although by design they do lend themselves to give a certain degree of protection against drowning  whilst the cover is on the pool.

Some local councils in New Zealand have accepted vinyl covers as a safety device, but the onus is on the pool builder/owner to apply for consent as a safety cover from their respective local council.

SAFETY NETS, POOL FENCING and/or SAFETY ALARMS SHOULD ALWAYS BE USED PRIMARILY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CHILDREN, ANIMALS AND NON-SWIMMERS FROM COMING INTO CONTACT WITH POOL WATER

WARRANTIES
